Our nation has seen first-hand the destructive power of bullying. Our students have been exposed to more than the simple play-yard bully; they experience personal attacks, text message assaults, cyber victimization, and “sexting” gossip just to name a few.
Bullying in our schools is one of the most devastating and damaging events young adults can experience. We have all seen or read about the tragic aftermath of these unnecessary and pointless attacks.
We all believe in the better and basic human nature theory, yet many of our students are not equipped to interact appropriately. They lack support systems, self-esteem, control, and most importantly “education” about bullying.
Our schools must be well educated, prepared, and able to manage current living anti-bullying programs in their own communities. Without updated and “living” educational programs in all levels of public and private schools, our students will not only continue to experience bullying, but they will be subject to becoming a part of the vicious cycle.
Education and awareness are just some of the tools needed to effectively combat this damaging behavior. Unfortunately many former bullied students become aggressive or abusive parents. We must be able to look to our schools and our community leaders to seek out and magnify their Bullying Prevention, Education, and Management tools.
Richards presentations on Anti-bullying are hard hitting and strait to the point. "There is no soft and cuddly way to speak directly and distinctively about the causes and aftermath of bullying in schools.”
All schools; high schools, middle schools, elementary schools, and higher level (college) schools need to have a comprehensive and “living” program that is constantly updated and maintained to be effective and meaningful for the student body, staff, and their communities. Richard speaks to all levels of education about the importance of understanding the reasons, causes, and lifelong reactions of bullying in our schools.
